Nearly hidden on the western shores of Lake Washington due east of downtown, Leschi exemplifies the play of water and light that many identify with the Pacific Northwest.
Even in Summer, the sun shines only until late afternoon, when it falls behind the steep hill abutting the neighborhood. The darkness, the lake lapping at the shores, the snow-capped Cascade Mountain views – all make this slice of Seattle real estate in very heavy demand. That Leschi has no room to grow, and few would leave willingly, makes it even harder to get into a condo here. CondoCompany is a great place to start looking.
Almost entirely residential, and upscale, the lake-view community consists of modern and cape cod style homes on the hillside and multiple-resident buildings which congregate at the water’s edge, sometimes at the ends of piers. Condos cluster around the center of this tiny neighborhood, but in general, it’s not a nexus for condominium development.
But the preciousness of Leschi, sandwiched between larger and better known waterfront areas such as Madison Park and Mt. Baker, makes it as quiet as any off-the-beaten-path neighborhood.
Most condos lie along Lake Washington Blvd., which skirts the coastline for a few scenic miles. On alternate Sundays in the summer, the city closes down the road so bicyclists can ride without fear of automobile traffic.
The hydroplane races take place only a few short miles south of Leschi, so condo residents get first shot at parking. Another nearby plus is Madrona Beach, just up the road a stretch, a sandy shore and swimming area on Lake Washington that’s staffed with life guards. It can be overcrowded on Summer weekends, so best to avoid those days. |
