Just the name can confuse, since there’s no capitol building in Seattle, nor can you view the state capital of Olympia, which is miles and miles away by car down I-5. Capitol Hill’s denizens on Broadway may lead you astray as well, dressed in gothic fashions, stressed with tattoos and body piercings, and generally on the margins of respectable society.
But there are views to die for – of downtown’s skyline only a few blocks downhill; Elliott Bay and the water traffic coming and going; the Space Needle and Seattle Center; and the mountains – Olympic and Cascade ranges, depending on which side of the hill your real estate faces.
The life blood of Capitol Hill runs the length of Broadway, a dense commercial avenue surrounded by private homes and condominiums vying for the best vantage point. Condos here generally attract the young, hip, and gay friendly crowds since the area is a bohemian haven. Even more than in the University District, Broadway and Capitol Hill’s Pike/Pine Corridor have become destinations for youth culture and its trappings.
Economic conditions and a raging real estate market mean that condos sprout up anywhere near Broadway, as well as further up the hill towards the Central District. Take advantage of summit views by purchasing a condo along 15th Ave. E.
But the best deals come from the abundance of condo development along the I-5 trench on the hill’s western flank, facing downtown. Buyers accept the freeway’s constant and loud soundtrack, which also proves to be visually arresting during rush hours, because nothing beats the immediacy to downtown condo residents enjoy every day. |
